TOP repositions the library as a vibrant, modern resource tailored to the evolving needs of adults, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation to create a library experience that truly resonates with the community.
The TOP system is diverse, humorous, relatable, and most importantly, relevant to each unique residents’ wants and needs out of their public library.


What does "TOP" mean anyway?
TOP, as a brand for the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, draws directly from Topeka’s nickname, “Top City,” creating an immediate connection to the community.It represents more than just the library—it reflects a local spirit that embodies Topeka’s unique identity and pride, fostering a sense of belonging and community connection.
The three sub-brands—TOP Story, TOP Shelf, and TOP Reads—each reflect different aspects of the library’s adult focused initatives, but all tie back to the core idea of Topeka as the topplace for culture, learning, and community engagement. Above all, TOP is about celebrating Topeka while providing top-tier library resources and experiences for its adult residents.
